Lecture outline

AI is very much in the news today. But what is AI? How do large language models work? What are the data and energy requirements for AI? And what can be the dark side of AI? This lecture will attempt to address all these topics.

Biographical note

Professor Rau is the Sir Evelyn de Rothschild Professor of Finance at Cambridge Judge Business School. He has also held the Gresham Chair in business at Gresham College and the Ambank Chair of Financial Services at the Universiti Malaya. He is the incoming President of the Financial Management Association, a past president of the European Finance Association, and a past editor of Financial Management. He is a founder and director of the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance (CCAF) and a research member of the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI). He also serves on the editorial boards of several journals including Management Science, the Journal of Corporate Finance, and the Journal of Banking and Finance,  among others. His research has frequently been covered by the popular press including the New York Times, the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, and the Economist.

The lecture is open both to members of the Society and to guests.

Please note that tea and coffee drinks will be available between 7.00pm and 7.15pm before the formal start of the event at 7.30pm.

The lecture will also be streamed on Zoom. A recording of the lecture may be available to members only.
